With a new year approaching it’s time to start thinking of the changes we’d like to make in order to take full advantage of a brand new year. Resolutions can be hard – the gyms get packed, the fridge looks tempting, and cutting out coffee is really just putting all of your co-workers in a dangerous situation. You’re going to want to be saving energy on multiple fronts. Why not start in your yard?
So for this upcoming New Year, let’s try something different. If you live in the city of Los Angeles, you can get free trees to plant in your front yard! The city will provide you with up to 7 shade trees, stakes, ties, and fertilizer pellets – the best part – they’re all delivered to your front door.
Here’s how you can be more environmentally friendly while throwing major shade in 2018:
Step 1: Apply
The first step is simple just Click here to apply on the LA Conservation Home website.
Step 2: Receive
Once you’re approved the LA Conservation Corps will deliver the trees to your home so you can start saving energy as soon as possible.
Step 3: Plant to Save Energy
Next, Plant the trees! Cityplants.org suggest planting trees on the East or West side of your home about 15-20ft away to save energy.
These trees can help cool your home in the hot LA summers to come and save you money on energy bills by up to 25%. Shading of an air conditioner unit can increase its efficiency by 10%. Trees also absorb carbon dioxide and other potentially harmful gasses, such as sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, from the air and release oxygen instead.
Finally, we all deserve to breathe a little easier and chill out – save energy while doing it!
